We are very proud of our Green Schools Committee as they have achieved their second green flag for Energy. The girls worked very hard and were committed to ensuring that all of the girls in the school were being energy aware. They couldn't have done it without the help of both Ms Barry and Ms Dolan. Congratulations everyone!
We have finally decided on our Green Energy Code for St Laurence O Tooles GNS. 5th and 6th class took part in a competition and everyone wrote a poem based on the word energy and saving energy. The winning poem was written by our 6th class girl, Keeva O Hara.
Every girl has to turn off the lights
Never go out without closing the door
Even the toilet door should be shut
Remember to knock off the board
Green school are always looking out
You could make a difference.
Congratulations to the winners of our art competition.
Well done to the whole school in taking part in the competition and making wonderful green school posters.
The Green Committee completed spot checks in the school this week. They went around the classrooms during lunch time and counted the amount of electrical items that were left on.
Some classes and teachers have done great work in saving energy!!
Congratulations to Senior Infants for making the most improvement from September to March.
Well done to Prep, Junior infants, 5th and 6th class for making a good improvement.
Keep up the good work everyone and turn off the lights when you leave the room.
Don’t leave TV or video on standby, turn it off at the power button.
Fit a lagging jacket on the hot water cylinder in your hot press. It keeps the hot water hot for longer, just like when we put on our winter jackets to keep us warm.
Recycling saves energy, so save up your
bottles, cans and paper and put them in the recycling bin.
When it’s dry outside, use the sun and wind to dry your clothes instead of a tumble dryer.
When it’s bright, turn off the light and don’t leave the light on if there’s no one in the room.
Have a shower instead of a bath, it uses a lot less hot water.
If you’re cold, put on a jumper instead of
turning up the heat.
If it’s safe to do so, walk or cycle to school or take a bus.
The Committee would like to thank parents for completing the questionnaires about energy use at home and returning them to school.
Since September the Committee have been meeting and coming up with plenty of wonderful ideas on how we can save energy in our school. The Committee and the School has been hard at work ensuring that the school is saving energy in every way possible!!
In order to receive the Second Green School Flag there are 7 steps to complete during the two years. The school and committee has made great progress through these steps!!
