We just love to skip here at St Laurence O'Toole's. As part of our Active Schools week we held a 'Skipathon'. Some of the teachers even 'jumped' in! What a great end to our day!
Active Schools Week is here and we are all having a great time. We are 'Waking and Shaking' every morning this week. On Wednesday the whole school came together for a sports quiz. This was followed by and extended break time for the girls!
FAI Junior Cup
We are so proud of our local team Sheriff YC for reaching the final of the FAI Junior cup. The final will be played this Sunday and everyone at St Laurence O'Toole's will be cheering on the boys !
As part of our Active Schools application we were lucky enough to be afforded the opportunity to try out wake boarding in Grand Canal Dock. It was so much fun to try out a new and exciting sport. The active schools committee had a super time and really made the most of this wonderful opportunity. Well Done Girls!!
The girls at St Laurence O'Toole's are so lucky. Every term a different class gets the chance to go swimming. This term 3rd and 4th class are attending lessons at Sean Mc Dermott street swimming pool. We love getting in the water but we are always thinking about safety first. This term we are trying to achieve our PAWS (primary aquatics water safety) Level 1 with our teacher.
Getting Active at Avoca
6th class girls are leading by example and getting active. The girls spent the night at Avoca and had a wonderful time trying out lots of new and exciting activities. They tried their hands at zip lining, archery and obstacle courses to name a few. As you can see from the photos they had a wonderful time. Way to go 6th Class.
Wake Up, Shake UP !!
As part of our Active School Flag the girls at St Laurence O'Toole's are waking up and shaking up! Thats right, before we start the day we are moving and shaking and getting ourselves ready to work. The most exciting part is that we never know what fun activity we are going to be doing. It's important to be in school on time because we'd hate to miss out on all of the fun. Keep an eye on this blog for more pictures :)
Sport For Life
From September to December the girls in 3rd and 4th class were very lucky to take part in the Sport for Life All Island initiative. This initiative was for children aged 8 and 9 . It aimed to teach the children about their bodies, healthy eating and exercise. Each lesson began with an explanation about the parts of our bodies used during exercise and also a demonstration of the exercises that the children would be doing. The girls in 3rd and 4th class loved the lessons and really learned to appreciate being active and healthy. In January the girls attended a fun day in DCU to celebrate the completion of the program. They were also awarded a certificate of completion. Well done girls!
Active Schools Committee
Our Active Schools Committee is helping to keep the girls and teachers in St Laurence O'Tooles Healthy, Happy and Active. Well done girls!
